An accessibility-focused device that gives everyone control over how they experience movie sound.
Onyx for Theatres provides a calm and controlled audio experience, so you can enjoy movies without sensory overload or discomfort.
Onyx is designed to allow individual users to modify the volume of movies, allowing users to listen to movies at a volume they find comfortable, without impacting the experience for anyone else.
Onyx is designed to allow users to reduce sound frequencies that may cause discomfort without altering the movie for anyone else.
Onyx was built from the ground up to help make movie theatres more accessible to people who may require accommodations, alongside other accessibility devices already provided by theatre chains like AMC Theatres, Regal Cinemas, and Alamo Drafthouse.
Onyx for Theatres is still in development, but you can help bring it to life. Here's how!

To view a current roadmap of the Onyx for Theatre project, you can refer to the below section. Note: This roadmap is subject to change at any time, and does not provide any estimated dates or guarantees.
Step 1 consists of the initial development and prototyping of the device, including both the hardware and software. In this stage, one main unit would be constructed, and taken into theatres to test, to ensure full functionality.
Step 2 consists of finding a few local locations around my specific area to pilot the device at, by providing 4 or 5 units free of charge for a trial run, to gather metrics, and feedback from both employees and users, to ensure the device is in a good state for full release.
Step 3 consists of getting AMC Theatres, Regal Cinemas, or Alamo Drafthouse to adopt the device company wide, providing units to all of their various locations. This is essentially the final goal.
Onyx for Theatres enhances accessibility without requiring costly modifications to the auditorium. It helps cinemas support sensory-friendly screenings, expand their audience, and improve guest satisfaction.

Not yet. Onyx for Theatres is still in development, currently in the prototyping stage. Stay tuned for more news as we progress!
The device is designed to work independently of the theatre’s main audio system. The current concept uses a small portable device, and a small mic array to capture the audio as it plays in the auditorium, allowing the device to process it.
No! It’s meant to complement existing accessibility offerings (like assisted listening or closed-caption devices), not replace them.
